Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon

Tourists visit Las Vegas for many reasons. But if you come to the city and miss the Grand Canyon, you may regret it. There are many reasons to get out of the city and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the American West. Luckily, there are numerous ways to do it. The spectacle of the Grand Canyon seen from the air is not easily forgotten. Day trips by small plane or helicopter are extremely popular, with the bonus of a Hoover Dam flyover. These trips offer visitors a bird's eye view of the landscape as it changes from craggy mountains to arid desert plateau, giving way to the wonderland of colorful sandstone cliffs that comprise the "Big Ditch" and the canyon floor far below. Most tours allow time on the ground, so you'll get a close-up view of flora and fauna and learn about the history and geology of this American treasure. Bus tours of the West or South Rim might include a stop at the awesome Skywalk glass bridge are an alternative to an aerial tour. They require a long day's travel by comfortable bus from Las Vegas, but it's entirely worth it. Just don't forget your camera! Exploring the nature of Nevada and its surrounding region is as big a thrill as seeing a great show or winning at the tables.
